HOW COMFORTABLE IS THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE?
Dental implants present a fixed alternative for replacing lost or decaying teeth. You can lose a tooth for many reasons, including accidents or as a natural result of growing older. Having missing teeth can affect many areas of your life, from biting and chewing to how confident you feel smiling and even talking to people.
In the past, lengthy and expensive treatments, such as dentures and bridges, were the standard way to address the issues associated with missing teeth. However, with the advent of dental implants, our clients have the option of a longer-lasting and more cost-effective solution.
For some the idea of having implants placed is a strange one and questions often arise about the procedure and how comfortable the treatment actually is. If you’re interested in discovering how dental implants can transform your smile, then read on to find out the details of the process with Ollie & Darsh.
At Ollie & Darsh we offer a free initial consultation to all of our clients. This is so we can discuss your dental history and what you hope to achieve from your treatment. You will then have a clinical consultation where we will perform an examination of your teeth and gums, take digital photographs of the inside and outside of your mouth and perform any x-rays you may require.
The first part of your treatment will be the placement of your dental implants. Our implant surgeon, Dr. Richard Brookshaw, will apply a local anaesthetic; this will ensure the procedure is relatively painless and as comfortable as possible for you.
A titanium post will be implanted into the jaw bone, in the location of the missing tooth. You may experience some discomfort after this procedure, but this will not last for very long and the healing process is quick.
Integrating the implant and restoring your teeth
Biological integration is the process of the implant integrating into your jaw bone. This typically occurs within eight to 12 weeks. This integration provides a strong base for the new crown or bridge.
Once your implant has integrated, moulds of its position can be taken. Then the individual ‘teeth’ can be designed, created and screwed into the implant. Once in place they will look, feel and function just like a natural tooth.
The implant process is one that is meticulously planned between us and our clients. We do everything in our power to make the process a comfortable and minimally painful one for everyone that walks through our doors.
Dental implants are the perfect way to restore your smile to its former glory.
