CARING FOR YOUR DENTAL IMPLANTS – AN OLLIE & DARSH GUIDE

So you’ve done it! You’ve invested in dental implants to restore missing teeth and you have a restored smile, rediscovered your confidence and can order absolutely anything you want from a restaurant menu now!

However, if you want to make sure that your new smile stands the test of time then you have to ensure that you take good care of your newly restored teeth. Of course, taking care of your teeth should always be your number one priority when it comes to your dental health, but there are a few extra steps you can take when it comes to caring for your new dental implants.

Here are some of our top tips!

Modify your brushing

Now that you have a restored tooth there will be some areas of the tooth that will be harder to reach. Sometimes food debris can get trapped at the sides of the new tooth. It pays to give a little more attention to these areas. An electric toothbrush is a great investment when it comes to getting further into harder to reach areas.

Invest in a variety of brushes

An interspace brush (a brush with bristles that stand at the very end) and an interdental brush ( very fine bristles on a wire that fit in between the teeth) are perfect additions to your regular toothbrush. The interspace brush helps with cleaning the areas around your new teeth, while the interdental brush will clean the sides of your implant supported tooth.

Floss

We always extol the virtues of flossing, and it applies just as much when you have restored teeth supported by a dental implant. Floss will remove the smallest amounts of food that get caught around your teeth and will help in keeping your new teeth secure, clean and will avoid discolouration.

See your dentist regularly

Regular visits to your dentist and hygienist will give you the peace of mind that your implant is secure and that your cleaning routine is working. We would recommend making annual appointments to check the status of your implant.

When you discover the life changing benefits of dental implants you will absolutely want to make sure you do everything you can to make those advantages last. It doesn’t take a long time, but a little bit of effort every day will ensure that your implants remain one of the greatest investments your appearance and confidence levels will thank you for.
