This blog has been designed to share with you our most frequently asked questions in regards to Invisalign at Ollie and Darsh.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the clinically proven, nearly invisible way to straighten your teeth with metal braces. You wear a series of clear, plastic, removable aligners which over the period of your treatment plan move your teeth onto the desired position. The aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.

How does it work?

Based on the diagnosis of Ollie or Darsh, a series of aligners are individually made in a laboratory using advanced computer imaging technology.

You wear each numbered aligner for two weeks before being replaced with the next one, until your teeth are straight. You will come into the clinic for a review every two months.

Why should I select Invisalign?

Aligners are virtually Invisible – straightening your teeth without anyone noticing.

Aligners are Comfortable – there are no wires or metal to cause discomfort.

Aligners are Removable – for, eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.

Better oral hygiene during treatment – brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums.

Will it work for me?

If you have all your adult teeth, most clients can be treated with Invisalign even if they have crowns or bridges.

Many common issues like crooked or crowded teeth or spaces between teeth and certain overbite and crossbite types can successfully be corrected.

Is this treatment only for adults?

No, you just need to have all your adult teeth and you need to be committed to wearing your aligners at all times except for eating, drinking and cleaning.

We also have Invisalign Teen which is especially designed with teenagers in mind and which allows them to carry on doing what they do such as sport activities or playing a musical instrument.

How do I get started?

Call in for a FREE consultation where we can consider your individual smile and your needs and discuss your goals. Following this you will have an evaluation with Ollie and Darsh and then we will take impressions, an x ray and a photograph.

Approximately ten days later we will invite you back to view your future, in other words you’re before and after we can inform you of the estimated length of your individual treatment plan before you start your Invisalign.

How long does the treatment take?

Each of our cases are individual so dependent on the difficulty, most adult cases take between six to eighteen months.

How long do I have to wear the aligners?

The aligners should be worn for 22 hours every day for the best results. Every two weeks you will move on the next one in your series and then come in and see Ollie and Darsh every two months for a review and to be given more aligners.

Are the aligners really invisible?

They are made from clear plastic, so they are virtually invisible. Even when very close, most people will not notice you are straightening your teeth – unless you choose to tell them?

Can I eat or drink with my aligners?

No. The aligners are removable so you can still enjoy your favourite food and drinks. You need to be careful and to avoid tooth decay and /or gum disease by not forcing the food particles and sugars against your teeth via the aligners. So keeping them clean is very important.

Do the aligners hurt?

It is quite normal that you will only feel temporary discomfort when you wear the aligners for the first few days. The smooth aligners are not harmful to the inside of your mouth, but you do feel pressure like pain and this is a good sign that the aligners are working.

Are there any side effects?

As with conventional treatments, you may fell a little pressure at first. Aligners may temporarily affect the speech of some people for the first 24 to 48 hours, and you may have a slight lisp for a day or two.

How old is this technology?

Align Technology, Inc., the company that manufacturers Invisalign, was founded in 1997. Since then over 480,000 patients have been treated with Invisalign.
